BCSC Proposed Calendar 2012-2013

Batesville Community School Corporation is investigating a balanced calendar for the 2012-2013 school year.

A balanced school calendar is similar to a traditional school calendar. Students still attend school 180 days, as they do with a traditional calendar. However, the days are organized differently throughout the school year. The summer is slightly shorter (8 to 9 weeks long) with longer breaks built into the school year. These breaks occur at the end of each instructional nine weeks grading period. The breaks, commonly called intersessions, are two weeks in length and occur in October (Fall Break), December (Christmas Break), and March (Spring Break). The school year begins around August 1 and the ending date is still in late May. The main differences between the balanced calendar compared to a traditional calendar are the starting date is slightly earlier and there are two weeks off for Fall Break and two weeks off for Spring break with the possibility of weather make-up days the first week of Spring Break.
